0 ARTS:LIVE – Changing lives across Australia

  • June 19, 2013

  • · Community · Radio Show

I recently interviewed Caroline Aebersold, CEO of The Song Room on the Creation Road Radio Show. What an amazing and inspiring organisation! Through a variety of long term school-based arts/creativity programs, The Song Room is helping to provide improved education and positive social change for disadvantaged young people right across Australia.

What I find so inspiring about The Song Room programs is that the children reap the benefits of social connection, cultural appreciation and higher self-esteem, which quite often results in better school attendance and academic results for the young participants. These programs really do change the lives of the young people involved for the better.

It is quite clear The Song Room programs bring a lot of joy and inspiration to the children who participate by allowing them to take part in positive long-term activities they may never have otherwise had the opportunity to be a part of.

Jackson Jones

On Friday 14th June, The Song Room officially launched ARTS:LIVE, a unique, interactive online learning platform that is now available free to every school in Australia and goes a long way to realising the Song Room’s vision that no child misses out on quality arts education.

Using innovative technology, the ARTS:LIVE platform promotes active collaboration between teachers and students and supports non-specialist teachers in delivering arts education across the art forms of Music, Dance, Drama, Media and Visual Arts.

ARTS:LIVE aims to bridge that equity gap by offering unprecedented access to in-depth, Australian Arts curriculum aligned, classroom-ready interactive learning from anywhere in Australia, regardless of their existing skills and knowledge.

ARTS:LIVE is available free to all Australian schools now at www.artslive.com.au, so spread the word!

1 20 Ways To Be More Creative

  • May 13, 2012
  • Creation Road
  • · Books · creativity

Get more creative today!

If you have come to a creative standstill, here are a list of 20 things for you to try to get you back into the zone.

  1. Don’t be too focused or serious… relax, have fun!
  2. Work with people who are different from yourself
  3. Work on problems at the fringes of your speciality
  4. Have a good laugh before looking at the problem
  5. Paint your walls blue
  6. Smoke a little marijuana (no kidding!)
  7. Think like a child
  8. Practice day-dreaming
  9. Try to rotate yourself through your business, periodically
  10. If you’re a “day person”, think about the problem at night (and vice versa)
  11. Piggyback on other people’s experiences (and vice versa)
  12. Think about the problem when you’re drowsy
  13. Re-state the problem in general terms (not specific)
  14. Pretend you’re far away from the problem
  15. Don’t sit in a small room
  16. Go for long walks
  17. Take long, hot showers
  18. Have a diverse circle of friends
  19. Travel a lot
  20. Be happy!
Imagine (book cover) by Joah Lehrer

From the bestselling author of How We Decide comes a sparkling and revelatory look at the new science of creativity. Shattering the myth of muses, higher powers, even creative “types,” Jonah Lehrer demonstrates that creativity is not a single “gift” possessed by the lucky few.
